Kitchen Fail: Raw Soup

So.. raw soup, huh? Man, I really wanted to like this, the idea of raw veggie soup sounded so nice, maybe not perfect for winter, but as a soup lover I just had to try it. Well, it wasn't good. Maybe I'll try a different combination next time or maybe I just need some practise, but this was not good at all. The colour was gorgeous, of course, but the taste - eurgh. Not even my beloved soy sauce could save this mess.

Daily Eats Nov15 Raw Spinach Zucchini Soup
(Soup: zucchini + spinach + avocado + olive oil + spices + water)

I've been really interested in raw foodism lately, but this really bummed me out. Has anyone had similar experiences with raw foods? I like green smothies and most vegetable juices so I figured this would work well for me, but I guess I'll have to do some more experimenting. I want to try some raw dips other than guacamole next time, I think those might suit me better than cold soups. :)

  1. The colour is really stunning. What is it made of?

  3. I tried a raw corn chowder recipe once and it was disgusting. It made me sad! Because I *want* to like raw food, but so far the things I've tried have been...not so good.

  4. @Bunz: I know, I was really disappointed too. Raw desserts are usually great though.

  5. I tried a raw avocado/cucumber soup recipe with raw salsa & warming spices. I really liked it...just kept tasting & spicing until I dug it. I hope you find one that you like!

  6. @VegNSoul: You know what? Cucumber and avocado would probably be really nice together, thanks for the tip!

  8. Yeah raw soups are tricky so I would recommend following recipes from well known blogs that have a solid reputation for recipes eg Kirsten's Raw and The Sunny Raw Kitchen. Raw soups are unlike green smoothies where most of the time fruit and veggies should taste good. But savoury raw soups... you need to know which flavour combinations you like. Cold soups are totally different beasts to hot soups. For example, I find that I like a bit of sweetness in my raw soups so I tend to use carrot juice and/or tomatoes. Zucchini, spinach, and avocado can be a bit bland even with spices. Anyway, please don't give up because raw soups can be very delicious when done right.
